Building a faculty pathway for an international certification board.
How a UK-registered certification board in aesthetic medicine moved from inviting faculty event by event to a structured faculty pathway with a clear proposition, intake and progression.
The situation
The International Aesthetic Board (IAB) certifies practitioners across several aesthetic medicine specialties and delivers education in multiple countries. Growth depended on one resource more than any other: experienced clinicians willing to teach, examine and mentor.
Faculty relationships had grown the way they usually do in this field. Strong clinicians were approached personally, invited to specific courses, and thanked afterwards. It worked, but it did not scale.
The real constraint
The problem was not a shortage of good clinicians. It was that the board had no defined offer for them. A potential faculty member could not see what the role involved, how they would grow inside the organization, or what they would gain beyond a single teaching day.
Internally, the team had no shared way to capture a clinician's expertise, availability and fit, so every conversation started from zero and depended on who was having it.
The decision
Treat faculty as a pathway, not a roster. Define the proposition first, then build the intake, the stages and the team capability to deliver it consistently.
What I built
- A faculty partnership proposition and pitch presentation, explaining roles, recognition and progression in terms clinicians care about.
- A structured faculty professional profile and opportunity form, with an AI-assisted profile preview, so every candidate is captured in the same way and matched to real opportunities.
- A staged faculty pathway, from guest faculty to lead faculty and advisory roles, with criteria for each step.
- A bilingual team training program, with English and Arabic speaker notes, so the whole team can present the proposition consistently.
What changed
Faculty conversations now start from a defined proposition instead of a personal favor. Every new relationship follows the same intake, which makes it easier to match clinicians to programs across markets and to see where faculty depth is missing.
The pathway also changed the conversation with senior clinicians: from "will you teach this course?" to "here is the role you can grow into."
Apply it yourself
- Can a senior clinician see, in one page, what your faculty role involves and where it leads?
- Does every faculty candidate go through the same intake?
- Are faculty terms, fees and expectations written down?
- Is there a defined step from guest faculty to lead faculty?
- Can your whole team present the faculty proposition consistently?
Faculty stay when they can see where the role leads. The pathway is the retention strategy.
